What does a cancellation clause mean in a travel nurse contract?
Short answer
It says when the hospital or agency can end or cut your contract, how much warning you get, and whether you are paid anything if they do.
Two things it can mean
Contract cancellation — the job ends early, sometimes with as little as a couple of weeks' notice, sometimes with less.
Shift cancellation — the hospital cancels some of your shifts when it's slow. Check how many it can cancel before your pay is cut.
What protects you
Guaranteed hours — a promise you get paid for a set number of hours each week even if shifts are cancelled.
A written notice period, and what happens to your housing money if the job ends early.
A fee you would owe if you leave early — check this too, so it isn't a surprise.
Ask your recruiter before you sign
- How many hours a week are guaranteed?
- How many shifts can be cancelled in a pay period?
- How much notice do I get if the contract ends early?
- Do I owe anything if I end the contract early?
